India Gaming News Roundup – Week of 25 October 2026

Welcome to the FoxBonus weekly India gaming briefing. Here are the developments shaping a market reshaped by a sweeping new law.

The real-money online gaming ban is in force

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025, together with the Rules 2026, came into force on 1 May 2026. It bans online “money games” – those played for stakes – regardless of whether they are based on skill or chance, which brings real-money rummy and paid fantasy sports within the ban. Free-to-play games without a monetary stake remain outside it. Source: The Quint.

How enforcement works

The Online Gaming Authority of India can direct banks and payment intermediaries to suspend or block transactions tied to real-money games. Penalties target operators, advertisers and payment facilitators – not individual players – with up to three years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹1 crore. Source: iGaming Business.

Legal challenges continue

The law is still being contested. Reports indicate the Supreme Court upheld the 28% GST on real-money online games earlier in 2026, with a further hearing on challenges to the ban expected in January 2027. The Act also sets out to promote e-sports and recognised online social games.
